ACTING FOR THE STAGE

THREE DAY STUDENT WORKSHOP


Intended for students with an interest in the craft of acting, particularly in live theatre. Students will work in relaxation exercises and games, speech exercises and games, body language exercises and games, blocking exercises and games and character interpretation exercises and games. Vocabulary and concepts to be mastered will include character, role, dialect, emotional memory, improvisation, voice projection, monologue, character action, obstacle, beat, pacing, accents, tempo, rhythm, counter, crossing, stage directions, sense memory, substitution, method and the fourth wall. New York- Course to be included in the Eastern Suffolk BOCES Arts-In-Education.Grades: 6-12 Audience: 20 NYS Standard(s): ELA Arts Standard(s) 1,2,3,4 Art Form(s): Drama, Theater Length: three days during or after school - 9 total hours

PRODUCING THE SCHOOL PLAY

THREE DAY WORKSHOP

From pre-production planning to post production bookkeeping, an experienced facilitator will train teaching personnel to produce musical theatre and drama within the school environment. Insight will be provided into the organization and coordination of existing teaching staff, participating students and supportive administration as well as marshalling community and local merchant, sponsorship. Particular attention is given to coordinating the theatrical program from choosing the play, the casting process, directing and rehearsals, choreography design, set design, lighting/sound design, program creation and advertising and final stage management. Specially designed for the school program lacking an in-the-building theatre coordinator or director. New York - Course to be included in the Eastern Suffolk BOCES Arts-In-Education. ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

PRODUCING DRAMA/COMEDY FOR THE SCHOOL STAGE


Five weeks from pre-production planning to post production bookkeeping, the well experienced visiting artist produces the dramatic stage show as a valuable part of the school theatrical program meant for the school program lacking an in-the-building theatre coordinator or director. New York- Course to be included in the Eastern Suffolk BOCES Arts-In-Education.
Cost: From $4,000 (Eligible for funding from State & Other Public Monies)


ADULT EDUCATION

ACTING FOR THE STAGE


Intended for students with an interest in the craft of acting, particularly in live theatre. The course is currently offered at Bay Shore, East Islip, West Islip, Connectquot, Babylon, Sayville- Monday evenings at 7 pm commencing October 10th and Smithtown, commencing Wednesday, October 12th.

WRITING FOR THE STAGE

Intended for the novice or the professional who wants further instruction and a chance to meet with fellow writers. The course is designed as a workshop, reviewing and fine tuning the elements of dialogue, characterization, plot structure and development and scene creation from initial coneption to final production. Form and content will be melded together in staged readings, monologue presentation and round table critical discussion. Active participation is encouraged in all aspects of the course. Cost: Varies with the participating school district. The course is currently offered at Bay Shore, East Islip, West Islip, Connectquot, Babylon, Sayville- Monday evenings at 7 pm commencing October 10th and Smithtown, commencing Wednesday, October 12th.

STAGECRAFT

Intended for students with an interest in stagecraft for live theatre. Stagecraft includes but is not limited to lighting design and operation, sound design and operation, set design and construction and scene change, costuming, makeup, stage management and program design.Cost: Varies with the participating school district.

OUR EDUCATIONAL DIRECTOR

Marcalan Glassberg has been devoted to education and the performing arts for over thirty years, teaching dramatic literature and the theater arts since 1969 on Long Island and New York City. As a playwright, he has received favorable notice for the Off Broadway plays he has written and produced as well as his independent films, cable television shows and sports productions.

Moving between New York and Los Angeles, he has worked with a host of entertainment personalities such as John Strasberg, Diane Keaton and Murray Schisgal. He is a member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Actors Equity Association, the Independent Feature Project, Long Island Film and Television Network, Cinewomen NY, among others and has served as a judge on numerous panels.
